NOTE: The review below was based on the first version of James Martell Affiliate Marketing Handbook. At the time, it was the best training available for those wishing to make a full-time income online.
Since the first edition, James has released updates, and the latest is the 2006 version of his manual. In it, James has switched from recommending Frontpage, to recommending an all-in-one hosting/site builder solution. This tool works out very expensive as each site will have a recurring monthly fee.
While I think the eBook is still good, you might like to consider a free alternative "Creating 'Fat' Affiliate Sites". Don't be fooled by the price tag ;o)
Old Review Follows:
James Martell has put together a comprehensive book on making money from affiliate programs. For those of you who don't know what an affiliate program is, here is a summary:
You, the webmaster create websites. On those websites you place links to other companies who sell products that visitors to your website are interested in. If a visitor clicks on a link on your site and goes to a company's site and buys something, YOU MAKE A COMMISSION. Commission can range from 1% to 50% or more.
James Martell’s AFFILIATE MARKETERS HANDBOOK – 2002 ?????
2002? Before we continue, I should mention that you can safely ignore the 2002 part of the title of this manual. Information in it is not out of date at the time of writing this review (July 2003), and James Martell does provide a website for getting updates.
James Martell Affiliate Handbook, at $167, is expensive when compared to other eBooks on making a living from affiliate programs. On top of the price of the manual, you will need to buy web hosting, HTML editor etc. So is it worth it?
Some background on me, the reviewer
I have been working full time in affiliate programs for over two years now. They do work. They do take time to set up and are definetly not get rich quick schemes, but you can make above average income from them. Many people who do this full-time earn much more than can be expected from a normal job.
Now, you might say you know nothing about web design and building web sites. Here is where James Martell comes in. Not only does he show you how to make a great income from affiliate programs, he also assumes you have ZERO KNOWLEDGE about building sites. Veterans can certainly skip some sections of the manual.
For beginners though, James Martell provides step by step instructions to making YOUR affiliate business a success. He takes you through what he considers to be the 8 essential steps to success. I have to say I agree with just about everything he says. He shows you how to
-
find profitable niche markets
-
write text for web pages
-
insert text into web templates
-
Optimize your pages so that search engines will love your site
-
find good affiliate programs to join
-
let search engines know where your site is
-
boost link popularity so you stay at the top of the search engines
and so much more...
Other authors have put together outstanding books on this subject. Rosalind Gardner, for example, has recently released her book at a much lower price. However, you should know that Rosalind pays for her website visitors by using pay per click search engines. Get that wrong and you could end up seriously ouyt of pocket.. James Martell, on the other hand, designs sites to get free visitors. You dont have to pay for your visitors when you design your site according to the James Martell Affiliate Marketers Handook.
James Martell has put together a magnificent book. He takes baby steps through the whole procedure from no knowledge to income-generating site. I dont think anyone can fail to make money from a site built the James Martell way. I built two using his technique. These two sites are in highly competitive markets and difficult to get good rankings on Google. The results speak for themselves. These sites each generate more each month (and every month without any more work from me) than the cost of James Martell Handbook. With a little work, you can have a successfull business.
Yes it takes work,
Yes, it takes some investment of time and money
Yes, financial independence is possible
I cannot recommend this book highly enough - but only if you are prepared to make a small financial investment in your future. If you are serious about a long term business, you need this book.
